I Will Contest For Speaker -Akande-Adeola

The Leader of the House of Representatives, Mrs. Multikat Akande-Adeola, has said she still have the ambition of becoming the next speaker of the House of Representatives.
She said if the Peoples Democratic Party zones the position to the South-West and she succeeds in her bid to return, she will definitely make a bid for the position.

Akande-Adeola spoke with journalists in Abuja on Monday when she visited the national headquarters of the party to pick her nomination form with which she hopes to contest the party’s primary in Oyo State.

She was penciled down and favoured by his party to become Speaker of the House of Representatives in 2007, but her colleagues in the House preferred the current Speaker, Mallam Aminu Tambuwal.

Tambuwal was supported by some members of the PDP and was also backed by the opposition, the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria.
This made him to beat Akande, who was later compensated with the position of House Leader.
Akande-Adeola, who is currently representing Oyo,Ogbomosho North,South/Orire Federal Constituency in the House, said her ambition to lead the House was still intact and prayed that the party would have majority members in the House in 2015 to enable her fulfil her life-long ambition.

She said, “Yes, if my party wins and I also win in my state and the position is zoned to the South-West, I would like to contest for the position(of speaker).”

Akande-Adeola said it would not be in the interest of the country for the majority of the House not to return, adding that this would amount to waste of money.

She said the country had spent so much on the legislatures and that the best way to get the best out of them was to make sure that majority of the lawmakers return to the House.
