Airtel, MTN, Others to Participate in Africa Digital Awards 2014

Telecommunications companies, MTN and Airtel, have confirmed that they will be participating in the 2014 edition of Africa Digital Awards with the theme, ‘Broadband: Oxygen for a digital economy’.

The companies made this known on Monday, through the organisers of the event.

The Coordinator, Tayo Adewusi, said several other companies and individuals had confirmed their participation at this year’s event, adding that it was not going to be an all-talk session.

Adewusi said the event would parade ICT industry players and investors, decision makers in Federal Government parastatalls, states and local governments.

He said the programme had become inevitable considering the fact that the economy of Nigeria was nosediving. “And broadband is one of the critical tools it needs to leapfrog into a digital economy.”

Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State will serve as the keynote speaker, to be supported by the Executive Vice Chairman, Nigerian Communications Commission, Dr. Eugene Juwah; the Director General, National Broadcasting Commission, Prince Emeka Mba; and the Managing Director of Accion Micro-finance Bank, Bunmi Lawson.

MTN’s Wale Goodluck; the Managing Director of Airtel, Segun Ogunsanya; Lanre Ajayi, Bayo Banjo, and Emmanuel Ekuwem, are the other panelists. Former NCC Executive Chariman, Chukwu Ndukwe, is the chief host.
