#2015ELECTIONS: Ekiti Monarchs Assure NYSC Members of Safety

With a few days to the presidential election, traditional rulers in Ekiti on Wednesday assured NYSC members to be used as INEC ad-hoc staff of their safety.

The monarchs gave the assurance when a team of the NYSC management led by the State Coordinator, Mr Chidube Ibeh, visited some of the monarchs.

The NYSC team visited the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adejugbe, Arinjale of Ise-Ekiti, Oba Adetunji Ajayi, and the Elemure of Emure, Oba Adebowale Adebayo.

Other monarchs visited were the Oluyin of Iyin-Ekiti, Oba Ademola Ajakaye, and the Regent of Ikere-Ekiti, Ayooye Adegboye.

Addressing the team in their palaces, all the monarchs visited described Ekiti people as peace-loving who would never do anything that would endanger the lives of the corps members.

“I am giving 100 per-cent assurance that nothing will happen to any of these corps members during the elections,” Arinjale said. “As a community, Ikere people will protect them while they discharge this crucial assignment in our local government area,” the Regent of Ikere said.

The Oluyin, however, warned the corps members to conduct themselves within the confines of the law.

The Ewi, who assured corps members in his domain of safety, prayed that no violence would be recorded before, during and after the polls.

The State Coordinator, on his part, addressed corps members in each of the communities visited, warning them against any act that could tarnish the image of the corps.

“No corps-member should compromise with any of the politicians because they are desperate to win and this must be the reason why you must be wary of them,” he said.

“Do not compromise with the desperate politicians, do not drag the ballot-boxes with political thugs when they attack your polling unit. “Run to the nearest police station in case anything happens.

“Do not betray the trust the Federal Government has in you and discharge this national assignment obediently, loyally and diligently,” he added.
