16 UniJos Students Arrested

16 students of the University of Jos have been arrested and stopped from taking their examinations by men of the Nigerian Army report says.

The soldiers , who are members of the Special Taskforce on Jos crisis sector 2 arrested the students at around 2:00 a.m. early hours of Tuesday, July 4 at their hostels.

According to a student of the university who doubles as National President of the Political Science Students Association in the school told Premium Times that attempts to secure the release of the students have remained unsuccessful with the police men refusing to state their offense.

The student leader also said the affected students, some final year students, missed the ongoing semester examinations.

The media officer of the Special Taskforce, Ikedichi Iweha, could not be reached by the newspaper but a security officer who spoke with Premium Times on the condition of anonymity said the students were arrested and are being interrogated for an alleged involvement in cult activities.

The report also said three students of the university have been missing since about two weeks ago over allegations of cultism.
