Marriage Is Not Meant For Everyone — Ifeoma Jones

My name is Ifeoma Jones and I am a model based in Los Angeles, United States of America. I am the only child of my mother, Millicent Austine. She was a runner-up at the 1982 edition of the Miss Nigeria beauty pageant. I am a native of Imo State. I have a diploma in Psychology from the University of Lagos. I have lived in New York for nine years.

I began modelling after I won the Nigerian Model Award in 2006. After the competition, I was selected to take part in the Ford Supermodel of the World competition. Although I didn’t win, I am grateful for the exposure. My modelling career kicked off when I made my runway debut in New York and worked with major designers at the Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010. I am raising the ante of my career by becoming an entrepreneur, actress and commercial model.

I am interested in entrepreneurship. I love to sell things and wish to build a business empire. When I got tired of wearing weaves because of the damage it did to my hair, I came up with another way to wear wigs. This made me set up an online wig store called Weave On Wigs. I also own an online clothing store based in Los Angeles called Novicci Store. I sell women and men’s clothing, accessories and swimwear. I love to make people look and feel good about themselves.

It has been hectic managing a budding business and two online stores. At the same time, I am also furthering my modelling and acting careers. All the Nigerian models that are based in the USA are here to gain exposure. Every model wants to be on the cover of Vogue and work for globally acclaimed brands. I think one of the biggest challenges of being a model is being called skinny; people always tell me to eat some more.

I have modelled for Dolce&Gabbana, Jones New York, Vena Cava, ElieTahari, Mario Moya, BibhuMohapatra, Angel Sanchez, Lacoste, Project Runway Season 8 and many others. I was once the face of campaigns for Samsung in Nigeria and Legit, a clothing store in South Africa. I have been photographed by some of the industry’s top photographers such as Liz Collins, Jamie Svensson, Robbery Hooman, Blaise Hayward, and Stephen Blaise.

I have a man in my life and he has the best heart. I love a man who is down-to -earth, respectful, charismatic, charming, confident, honest and most importantly, he has to be trustworthy and loyal. I think I have found all these qualities in my partner.

If marriage doesn’t bring you sadness and depression, it is perfect. If along the line it doesn’t work, leave, seek healing, get over it and don’t let it leave you depressed. There will always be someone else and in life, I believe not everyone is supposed to be in a marriage. If you think you don’t ever want to get married, then don’t! Never let society force you into anything.

My mum and Naomi Campbell are my role models. My motto in life is Go with the flow.

My best features are my lips and face. I don’t think I have the best body in the game neither would I list my buttocks as my greatest asset. I do a lot of home skincare regimen and I eat three avocados everyday. I also drink lots of water and apply facial masks.

My fashion fetish is anything that tickles my fancy and I must really want it.
