Abbass hails Access Bank Lagos City Marathon

Nigeria’s greatest professional marathoner Abbass Muhammed on Tuesday commended Access Bank for supporting the upcoming Lagos City Marathon.

The event will take place in Lagos on February 6.

The record holder said, “Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has started what I believe will revive the culture of cross country running and marathon in Nigeria. These are lucrative areas of sports where our youths can be gainfully employed.

“I believe that other states can emulate Lagos and arrest unemployment and youth restiveness with sporting events like this, even if it means at smaller scales.”

According to the organizers, the competition is an initiative of the Lagos State Government and sponsored by Access Bank with Eko Atlantic, Eko Hotel & Suites and Lucozade Sport as partners.

The marathon is an international event that promotes sports as well as tourism, fitness, competitiveness and healthy living. Up for grabs during the marathon is $500,000 in cash prizes.

Just like the Boston Marathon, the Lagos marathon has been put together to boost the economy and the tourism of Lagos State. It is expected to attract over 50,000 spectators.

The event starts at the entrance of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos while the finishing line will be at the Sales Office of Eko Atlantic, Ahmadu Bello Way Victoria Island, Lagos.

Water stations will be provided at every 2.5km while drinks and food station will be provided at every 5km.
